Privacy Policy
The short version. You don't need an email to use Astrela, and your first name is optional. Saving your account with Apple or Google is optional too. We use your birth data to calculate your chart, and we send your chart, questions and journal notes (and your first name, if you give it) to AI services to write your readings, only after you agree. We don't show ads, don't track you across apps and don't sell your data. You can delete everything at any time in Profile → Delete account.
1. Who is responsible
The controller for your data under the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) is:
Mohamad Khaled Osmani
Frida-Kahlo-Straße 21

Email: support@ask-astrela.app
2. What we collect
| Data | Details |
|---|---|
| Account | A random user ID created when you first open the app (anonymous sign-in). We don't ask for your email or phone number. |
| Saved sign-in (optional) | If you save your account with Sign in with Apple or Google, we receive an account identifier and the email address Apple or Google shares (with Apple this can be a private relay address). We use it only to let you sign back in on another device. |
| First name | Optional. The first name or nickname you give us, so the app and the chat can address you, and so it can appear on cards you choose to share. You can change or remove it in Profile. |
| Birth data | Birth date, birth time (optional), birth place name and its coordinates, the time zone we derive from them, and the chart we calculate. |
| People you add | The name or nickname you give, the relation, their birth data and chart, and the compatibility reading. Please only add people who are fine with it. |
| Reports you buy | The reading we write for you from your chart, which product you bought and when. Payment itself is handled by Apple or Google; RevenueCat tells us that the purchase went through. |
| Bond invites | When you invite someone, we store the invite code, your first name and the relation you chose for 30 days. When someone accepts, each of you gets the other's first name, birth date, time and place, chart and a compatibility reading in Bonds. Either of you can remove the bond at any time. |
| Chat | Your messages, the answers, short summaries of longer conversations, and notes the app keeps so it can remember what matters to you. You can read and delete these notes, or turn memory off, in Profile → What Astrela remembers. |
| Journal | Your daily mood, optional notes and that day's sky. |
| Readings | Your daily, weekly and timeline readings, stored so they load quickly. |
| Notifications | If you turn on the morning reading: a push token, your time zone and the hour you picked. |
| Subscription | Whether you have an active subscription, from RevenueCat and Apple or Google. We never see your payment details. |
| Usage and safety | Counters for the fair-use limits, a log of how many AI tokens each request used and what it cost, answers you report, and technical server logs (which can include your IP address). |
We do not collect your contacts, your device's location, photos or an advertising identifier, and we use no advertising or analytics SDKs.
3. Why we use it and on what legal basis
- To provide the app (calculating charts, storing your chats, journal and people, restoring your subscription): performance of our contract with you, Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR.
- AI readings and chat: your consent, Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR, which you give before the first reading. If you share sensitive information in the chat or journal, such as about your health, beliefs or sex life, you consent to us processing it to answer you, Art. 9(2)(a) GDPR. You can withdraw consent at any time by deleting your account.
- Morning notifications: your consent, which you can withdraw in Profile or in your device settings.
- Security, abuse prevention and cost control (limits, usage logs, reports, server logs): our legitimate interest in running a safe and affordable service, Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR.
We don't make decisions about you that have legal or similarly significant effects based solely on automated processing.
4. How the AI works with your data
Your chart is calculated by our own server with an astronomical ephemeris, not by an AI. To write readings and answers, our server sends the AI only what the answer needs: your first name if you gave one, your chart and current transits, your question, the recent conversation and its summary, the notes the app remembers, your recent journal moods and notes, and the names and charts of people you added. We don't send your user ID.
These requests go through OpenRouter, Inc. (USA), which forwards them to the provider of the AI model we use, currently models from Google, Anthropic or OpenAI. They process the request to generate the answer. AI answers can be wrong; Astrela is for entertainment and self-reflection, not professional advice.
5. Who else receives data
We use these service providers, who process data on our behalf:
- Google Firebase / Google Cloud (Google Ireland Ltd. and Google LLC): sign-in, database and server functions, hosted in the USA (us-central1).
- OpenRouter, Inc. and the AI model providers it routes to (Google, Anthropic, OpenAI): generating readings and answers.
- RevenueCat, Inc. (USA): managing subscriptions.
- Expo (650 Industries, Inc., USA), Apple and Google: delivering push notifications.
- Apple and Google: payments for subscriptions, under their own privacy policies.
- Vercel Inc. (USA): hosting this website.
We don't sell your personal information and don't share it for cross-context behavioral advertising. We may disclose data if the law requires it.
6. Transfers outside the EU
Most of our providers are in the USA. Transfers rely on the EU-U.S. Data Privacy Framework where the provider is certified, and otherwise on the European Commission's Standard Contractual Clauses.
7. How long we keep it
We keep your data until you delete your account. Profile → Delete account immediately and permanently erases your profile (including your first name), birth data, charts, people, chats, memory notes, journal, readings, reports, notification settings, usage logs and your sign-in account. Server logs are deleted automatically after about 30 days. Apple, Google and RevenueCat keep purchase records as their own policies and tax laws require.
8. Your rights
Everyone can ask us for a copy of their data, have it corrected or deleted, and withdraw consent, by writing to support@ask-astrela.app. Deletion is also built into the app.
In the EU/EEA and the UK you have the rights of access, rectification, erasure, restriction, data portability and objection (Art. 15–21 GDPR), and the right to complain to a data protection supervisory authority, in particular in the country where you live or work.
In California and other US states with privacy laws you have the right to know what personal information we collect, use and disclose, to access, correct and delete it, and not to be discriminated against for using these rights. We don't sell or share personal information, so there is nothing to opt out of. Because you use Astrela without an email address, we may ask you to send the request from within the app so we can match it to your data.
9. Children
Astrela is not meant for children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect their data. In the EU, users under 16 need a parent's consent. If you believe a child is using Astrela, contact us and we'll delete the data.
10. Security
Data is encrypted in transit and stored with Google Cloud. Access rules let each account read only its own data, AI keys stay on our server, and the app never talks to an AI service directly.
11. Changes
If we change this policy, we'll update the date above and tell you in the app when the change is significant.
